When I began my summer internship as the Marketing and Events Intern at Empowered Women International, I was excited, and a little nervous, to begin my first experience working in an office environment. I was hoping to gain overall work experience, utilize my communication skills as well as apply my Spanish skills. When I started, I had no idea how much personal growth and invaluable life insight I would gain. EWI immediately felt like a safe space, as I was able to grow, and thrive, both personally and professionally. EWI allowed me to explore a variety of different skill sets, all while helping me find my voice through personally meeting the amazing women that comprise EWI.
An event that stands out the most from my time at EWI, was the Herndon Business Pitch Presentations on June 20, 2015. The event had concluded, and the students began to stand, one by one, and say, “Thank you” to the EWI Team for all they had done. I knew I had landed in an extraordinarily organization when I heard the women speak so genuinely about how EWI made a lifelong impact on their lives. I am lucky to have had the chance to meet, and work, with everyone involved with EWI. The sense of family and community is something that I will always take with me, and look for in any future endeavor. My time here may have come to an end, but the lessons I have learned and the connections I have made will continue to stay with me.
A huge thank you to all of the EWI Staff, fellow interns, students, volunteers, and everyone else involved for making this a wonderful time and experience in my life. I cannot wait to see you all at EWI events in the future.
