To be eligible to participate in our training courses, you must meet at least two of following criteria:

– Be an immigrant or refugee woman
– Be of low or moderate income
– Be an EWI member and have paid your annual $35 enrollment and membership fee for the current year

Please check the registration deadline for the course you are interested in participating in. For many, there are only limited spaces available, so be sure to reserve your spot early! Registration entails:

– Filling out the online application for your course (links can be found below)
– Meeting with an EWI staff member or making an appointment to meet with one of us; all participants must have met with a staff member before the course’s start date

Advanced Jewelry Design Boot Camp

Learn about different beads and styles, demonstrate techniques, experiment, practice, and produce unique design.

This program is designed specifically for immigrant and refugee women designers to teach them advanced jewelry design skills. This course is not for beginners and all participants must have basic jewelry skills. The course will include instruction on technique, styles, production, and labeling, as well as basic entrepreneurship skills and career and market readiness. Graduates may sell their jewelry with EWI’s Micro-Enterprise Program to earn supplemental income. They will also gain access to additional courses and future projects.





Basic Felting and Entrepreneurship Course (July 2010)

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 28 (Limited spaces available, so reserve your spot early!)

This program is designed specifically for low-income and/or at-risk immigrant and refugee women to teach them the felting process and basic entrepreneurship skills and career and market readiness. This course will focus on felt soap and include instruction on technique, patterns and designs, production, pricing, and packaging. Graduates may become felt soap producers in EWI’s Micro-Enterprise Program, from which they can earn supplemental income. They will also gain access to advanced felting courses and future projects.

Course Dates (5 weeks):

- Saturday, July 10 (10:30am-3pm) – Felt Soap boot camp to learn about wool, felting, other felting products and ideas, demonstrate techniques, experiment, practice, and produce

- Thursdays, July 15, 22, and August 5 (6:30-8:30pm) – Follow-up, quality control, and market readiness

- Saturday, August 7 (10:30am-1:30pm) – Intensive three-hour course in basics of entrepreneurship & career and market readiness

- Thursday, August 12 (6:30-8:30pm) – Course Testing

Art Entrepreneurship Seminar (Spring 2011)

Course Fee: $75 for EWI members, $90 for non-members (indicate the course title in the designation box)

This one-day seminar will help current and potential EWI clients to learn how to showcase, market, and sell their craftwork and art. Speakers and organizers of the seminar include EWI’s trained staff and program graduates, experts in the field, and successful entrepreneurs.

Participants will learn the best strategies and practices to create and build their artist biography, statement, and portfolio. Workshops and discussion panels will address marketing and sales plans, internet marketing, product design, pricing, display and presentation, and funding your business. Additionally, the seminar includes small group coaching, networking, and speed mentoring.

Entrepreneur Training for Success (2011)

Course Fee: $200 (indicate the course title in the designation box)

This training is EWI’s flagship program which currently graduated 60 artists and creative entrepreneurs. This is an advanced entrepreneurial development program that teaches participants best strategies and practices to start-up and manage a small business in the creative industries. Participants are serious immigrant and refugee artists and artisans ready to turn their talent, craft and skills into a business, and have entrepreneurial spirit, positive attitude and determination to succeed.

Training topics covered include: building a product and business portfolio, pricing, sales and marketing, presentation and communication, customer relations, and the financial and legal issues related to operating a business. Additionally, students visit a thriving business in the creative industry to network, explore collaboration, and receive mentoring from established entrepreneurs and artists. Graduates of this course leave with an effective marketing plan, a roadmap to running a business, a budget, and a winning business portfolio.
