Durant Recreation Center is the Department’s multicultural center for the performing and visual arts. It offers programs in music, dance, theatre, and visual arts for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. The Durant Center is located in the Upper King Street neighborhood of Old Town and provides spaces for rehearsals, performances, special events, meetings, and arts focused classes.



ECDC-EDG – EDG began as a project of the Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC)–a  non-profit agency whose specialty is to help resettle refugees and immigrants to the United States, and later became a separate non-profit. EDG’s staff provides financial resources and support services to individuals, families, and small businesses in the D.C. metro area.

The Silver Spring Civic Center at Veterans Plaza opened on July 8, 2010. Veterans Plaza is a large public open space that is programmed for festivals and concerts. The Civic Building has become the center of community activities in Silver Spring.
