Trainers

Are you an experienced instructor with a passion for entrepreneurship and an appreciation of multicultural learners? Become an EWI Certified Entrepreneurship Trainer!

Trainers are vital to the success of our women entrepreneurs. They provide critical instruction, keep the classroom engaged and motivated, and ensure the success of all students to help them develop and launch micro-businesses. We are looking for women to become Trainers-in-Training to serve in our entrepreneurship programs in Alexandria, VA, Rockville, MD and Herndon, VA.

Our students are talented and motivated entrepreneurs in the creative industry and micro-business services.

Trainer Qualifications:

  • Accomplished, results-driven, entrepreneurial leader
  • Experienced classroom instructor or trainer with understanding of experiential learning methodologies
  • Exceptional presentation and facilitation skills
  • Adept at making course content concrete with real life narratives
  • Able to facilitate classroom and group discussions while always keeping focus on course objectives
  • Great interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and the personality and presence needed to engage the class
  • Adaptable to sudden classroom challenges with facility, technology, and student challenges
  • Cultural competency, empathy, and appreciation of multicultural learners with diverse backgrounds, cultural contexts, English language ability, and level of business development

Qualifications in one or more of the following strongly preferred:

  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing other services to at-risk populations that have many competing challenges and distractions in their lives;
  • Ability to provide support to students experiencing life challenges while keeping them focused on the goal of developing a business plan
  • Subject matter expert in the creative, culinary, home-based, health-related or consulting industries
  • Deep personal drive to help immigrants, low-income and at-risk women achieve economic empowerment

events2Becoming an EWI Certified Entrepreneurship Trainer
Attend our Train-the-Trainer program by completing the following requirements:

  • Complete a four-hour Train-the-Trainer Orientation Workshop
  • Attend six or more classes during the entrepreneurship program term
  • Present, at a minimum, one ETS classes during the program with experienced instructor observing
  • Facilitate small group activities and discussions during ETS program
  • Provide minimum 3-5 hours of one-on-one business mentoring to 3 or more ETS students
  • Present a business plan you created previously or by attending the ETS Train the Trainer and Certification Process

 

Mentors

Willing to make a difference empowering women through your leadership, business and mentoring skills?

Mentors are vital to the success of our women entrepreneurs. They provide guidance, support and encouragement to women students to help them develop and launch micro-businesses. We are looking for women mentors to serve in training programs in Alexandria, VA, Rockville, MD and Herndon, VA.

Mentors Qualifications

Candidates must have the following:

  • Pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Demonstrated success in business and/or leadership capacity
  • Passion for empowering women entrepreneurs
  • Cultural competency, empathy, and good mentoring abilities

Candidates must have one or more of the following:

  • Mentoring experience
  • Entrepreneurial experience (owned your own business or held a leadership position at a business)
  • Related experience in the creative, culinary, home-based or micro-service industries
  • Functional experience in marketing, sales, social media, product design, strategy, operations, accounting, finance, and/or business plan review

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with a group of 2-3 students in class brainstorming, reviewing homework and providing feedback
  • Provide advice and support through the different stages of developing a business plan
  • Discuss challenges faced when launching a business
  • Act as a positive role model to students
  • Help students focus on a business idea of their choice
  • Help students overcome identified barriers to achieving their goals
  • Respond to students and keep in regular contact
  • Meet one-on-one as need it to provide general coaching and advice
  • Provide input regarding specific questions/issues
  • Assist in connecting students to other opportunities or individuals who can help

Requirements

  • Attend Mentor Orientation Session
  • Attend specific evening ETS classes as designated by EWI
  • Be available to students by email or phone as needed, and commit time outside the training to a minimum of 1-2 hours per students week during the course schedule
  • Keep in regular contact with ETS program team and track hours/activities
  • Attend Midterm Mentor Check-in Session
  • Attend Final Mentor Debrief Session

Coaches

Want to share your business, financial, legal or life coaching expertise with women entrepreneurs? Have a few hours to give? We need your help!

image-blog_dec18Business coaches are part of EWI’s Business Corps Volunteer Program and provide invaluable services to women entrepreneurs in all stages of their business. They are key to helping them address their specific business and industry needs, and helping them understand all aspects of entrepreneurship.

Candidates must have the following:

  • Pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Demonstrated success in business and/or leadership
  • Previous coaching, consulting or professional advising experience
  • Passion for empowering women entrepreneurs
  • Cultural competency and empathy

Candidates must have one or more of the following:

  • Business, financial, legal, or life coaching experience
  • Entrepreneurial experience (owned your own business or held a leadership position at a business)
  • Related experience in the creative, culinary, home-based or micro-service industries
  • Functional experience in marketing, sales, social media, product design, strategy, operations, accounting, finance, business law, immigration law, business plans, life coaching

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a minimum of 2 hours coaching a month in your area of expertise or industry; more if needed, based on a client request
  • Agree to and sign EWI’s Business Corps Volunteer Agreement
  • Schedule and meet for an in-person or over-the-phone client coaching session
  • Report results with ETS program team and track hours/activities

Entrepreneur Support Services Volunteers

Provide business advice and guidance to women students in EWI’s entrepreneurial programs to help them develop and launch a small business.

Financial Advisor

Provide financial advice and feedback to clients requesting support in business or personal finances, including pricing products/services, record-keeping, tax preparation, cash flow, budgets, break-even analysis, strategies to improve credit score and other financial matters.

Legal Advisor

Provide legal business advice including business registration and licensing, intellectual property, contracts and other legal matters.

Life-Coach

Provide tools and strategies to address personal life challenges and trauma, including but not limited to building self-confidence, self-esteem, and pathways for healing and recovery.

Guest Speaker

Share practical experience, knowledge and wisdom about business topics including marketing, communication, managing people, using social media, public speaking, leadership skills, and running a business. We’re looking for people willing to share their personal experience, talk about failure, learned lessons, and how to create success in their businesses and their lives. Must be able to travel to the location where EWI provides classes, either in Northern VA or Montgomery County, MD.
