Empowered Women International creates jobs and economic opportunity for immigrant, refugee, low-income and at-risk women in the Greater Washington DC Metro Area through entrepreneurship training, mentoring, access to market and capital, so they can rebuild their lives and become agents of change.
Participants in EWI’s entrepreneurship program are women entrepreneurs many of who are in the creative, culinary and micro-service industries, among others.
Of the women we support, 82% are minority women, 76% have very low household income and 62% of the women are heads of household.
We help women turn their passion into business.
EWI delivers a holistic model of empowerment through entrepreneurship training, mentoring, business coaching, market access, micro-loans, and support services to enable immigrant and low-income women to lift themselves and their families out of poverty and overcome difficult life circumstances.
Since 2002, EWI has empowered and served more than 3,000 women. EWI entrepreneur graduates have launched 180 micro-businesses, of which 70% are still in operation. Learn more: www.ewint.org
