Three generations of women's rights advocates: Harriet Vines, Robyn Swirling and Deborah Rogers
Three generations of change-makers: Harriet Vines, Robyn Swirling and Deborah Rogers (Left to Right)

Six months ago, I joined the EWI team as the volunteer grant writer. When I saw this opportunity listed on a volunteer website, it seemed the perfect fit for my desire to work in the development field to support a nonprofit engaged in a mission aligned with my values.

I am the third generation of women on my mother’s side who has been committed to promoting women’s rights, opportunity and empowerment, and I have passed the torch to my daughter. In EWI, I recognize the passion and commitment necessary to pursue these important goals. More importantly, I am inspired by the women who lead the organization, as well as by the EWI entrepreneurs.

My first day in the office ended by attending a session of EWI’s “Entrepreneur Training for Success.” The session’s theme was “Telling My Story.” I could not have imagined the inspiring stories I would hear about how the women had faced seemingly insurmountable challenges, only to find themselves pursuing their dreams and their future with the assistance of EWI. It was an eye-opening experience I will never forget.

Much like the women it serves, EWI has its own story. One of an organization conceived by a woman with vision, passion, commitment, and a boundless energy that she devotes to helping others and achieving change. Fortunately, Marga has assembled a team around her equally dedicated to pursuing this vision and serving EWI’s mission to cultivate economic opportunity and social empowerment for its women clients. This makes my job as a grant writer much easier, as I am able to convey EWI’s commitment and success to its funders.

I look forward to continuing to build support for EWI, and I hope you will join me in this effort.

Be  changemaker. Make a difference. Donate.
